Henry Greenbaum was born Chuna Grynbaum in Starachowice, Poland, on April 1, 1928. His father, Nuchem, ran a tailor shop out of their home while his mother, Gittel, raised the family’s nine children.

Do you love the sound of bird songs and want to know who is singing? Do you want to know how to identify native plants and use them in your landscape to attract birds and butterflies? Do you want to learn more about the natural world around you while making a difference in your community?
The Virginia Master Naturalist program is a statewide corps of volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities.
The Shenandoah Chapter, serving the northern Shenandoah Valley, is offering a
2015 MASTER NATURALIST TRAINING COURSE from March 14 to May 20.
Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 PM and on Saturdays from 9 AM to 2 PM. Cost of the program is $175. A limited number of scholarships will be available. The evening classes will be held at Blandy Experimental Farm and State Arboretum of Virginia located on Route 50 just east of Route 340. Saturday field work classes will be held at Blandy and other locations.
Classes include nature interpretation, research skills, wildflowers, trees, insects, fish, mammals, birds, geology, soil science, weather and climate, general ecology, land use, aquatic habitats, reptiles, and amphibians. The training is for adults or high school students accompanied by a parent or adult who also participates.

On September 20, 2014, one of Virginia’s largest Superfund Sites will be returned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to the Economic Development Authority. After 25 years, the site that once housed the American Viscose Corporation and Avtex Fibers; that was added to the National Priorities List for Superfund Sites in 1986; and that was abruptly shut down by Virginia’s Attorney General Mary Sue Terry and the state Water Control Board in 1989 for ongoing pollutant violations will be returned to its community in Front Royal, Virginia. The Economic Development Authority now prepares its marketing and redevelopment initiative.

Andew is a 5 year old Stephens City Resident. Andrew has a Heart Condition called Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This is a thickening of the left Ventricular Heart Wall. Hes has been seen since birth for this condition and monitored every 6 months. His thickness has progressed, and the Drs. feel he now needs surgery. |Frederick County Gets a BBQ & Music Festival at the Fairgrounds
Clear Brook, VA
The Frederick County Fairgrounds will host a three day barbecue and music festival starting Friday June 28th through Sunday June 30th. The event is geared to raise money for CancerCare.org, but in turn helps three area non-profits.
The event features artists, crafters babecue spices, rubs and sauces, three days of music, and Family Fun Zone which includes Cornhole, the Virginia Giant and a Blue Angels Plane. All the while on Friday and Saturday, a Kansas City Barbeque Society State Championship is being held on the grounds as well. Professional barbecue competitors are coming from several states, including Season 2 Pitmaster's TV Show Celebrity Team, "3EyzBBQ" who was also the KCBS Team of the Year for 2012,
There will be plenty of barbecue food to purchase if you are hungry. Libations served by the Local Wnchester Exchange Group. A portion of the gate helps the local church and Clear Brook volunteer Fire Dept.
The organizers state they would like to see this become an annual event, if there is enough community support and would work with different charities and non profits each year.
